Our Frugal Valentines Day

Screw Valentines Day. I'm just waiting for the discounted chocolate on February 15th!

In this household I am not a massive fan of spending money on things that I feel are not worth it, and Valentine's Day can become expensive with all the products/services that surround it.

Don't get me wrong I do still like to celebrate it in some way, but by trying to do it in a simple and frugal way. When it comes to living on one income we have had to try and be as sensible as we can with our money, and Valentines Day does not need a lot of money spent on it. Also being married means that we generally celebrate our love on our anniversary as well as throughout the year of course. Spending time together as a couple should happen often throughout the year.

This year for Valentines Day we will not be giving eachother cards, nor will I be getting chocolates or flowers. Instead like I did last year I will be making a 3 course meal for when Doug gets in from work. I don't know what it is but having some nice food and watching a movie at home is so much more relaxing, plus it is cheap and cheerful.

Our Menu for tonight is:

Starter

Main

Dessert

With this menu I made sure I was using some ingredients that I already had in the house such as Ice Cream, Parmesan Cheese and then of course all the cupboard staples like Oregano, Balsamic Vinegar, Salt, Pepper, Oil, Garlic and Vegetable Stock. This 3 course meal, which our two toddlers will be sharing, cost me £6.90 for all the extra ingredients I needed, and the good thing is I only need 90g of the veggie mince so the rest is in the freezer waiting to be used in a couple more meals over the next week or so.

There you have it.

Do you celebrate Valentine's Day?
Do you go full out or try and do it frugally?
